Belgium, located in North West Europe, is one of the founding members of the European Union. In the 1960s, overseas investment played a significant role in country's economic growth. To create employment opportunities, the government supports new foreign investment. U.S. companies are largely involved in chemical, automotive assembly and petroleum refining. The country's main exports are automobiles, textiles, plastics, petroleum products, nonferrous metals, iron and steel, finished diamonds, and food products. Belgium doesn't have enough natural resources and, therefore, it has to import a substantial amount of raw materials. |
